The learning process doesn´t end when you leave the classroom. There are other things you can do outside the classroom to learn English:

• Read aloud.
• Imitate recorded speakers.
• Sing your favourite songs.
• Pay attention to any bit of English you come in contact with.
• Talk to foreigners, be nice.
• Study those things you know you have to and you've never done.
• Read English, read good English, read literature.

Welcome to the EOI. My name is Valentina Martín. I will be your teacher this course.



MATERIALS REQUIRED



· Our textbook for this year is: English File Upper-Intermediate. Third edition. Student’s book and workbook. Your workbook is for self-study. We won´t use it in the class.

· A notebook or folder is also necessary in your language class.



Dictionaries:

· A monolingual and/or bilingual dictionary (Oxford, Collins or Larousse). Try to get the latest edition.



READERS:

You will have to read at least ONE BOOK before Easter. Once you have read the book you will have to hand in your book review after Easter.

The library is at your disposal to take out books. It is also important to sign in the lending library list whenever you take out or return a book.

PRESENTATIONS

You will be asked to record and send your teacher (valentinaeoi@yahoo.com) a presentation (a monologue) on a topic of your choice (4 minutes). You will be expected to send your contributions in December. Your teacher will give you feedback on your monologue and this will give you an idea about your strongest and weakest points.

DESARROLLO DEL CURSO

Es obligatorio asistir al 70% de las sesiones. El curso consta de 120 horas, por lo que será necesaria la asistencia a 84 horas, pudiendo faltar por lo tanto 36 horas. Cada clase o sesión tiene una duración de 2,5 horas. El alumno que falte más de 36 horas perderá la oficialidad en el centro con las consecuencias que ello conlleva (consultar la página web (http://www.educa2.madrid.org/web/centro.eoi.ciudadlineal.madrid). Se pasará lista todos los días de clase y no se recogerán justificantes de ningún tipo, excepto en el caso de los menores de edad. Dichos alumnos deberán traer además una autorización para abandonar la clase antes de que finalice, si se diera el caso. Igualmente, si un alumno se ve obligado a llegar tarde, no deberá interrumpir la marcha de la clase.

Se ruega hacer uso de los móviles únicamente en caso de emergencia (en modo vibración). Se valorará la participación activa del alumno en las actividades orales de clase.

EVALUACIÓN

ASSESSMENT

Se llevarán a cabo tres tipos de evaluación:

Evaluación de diagnóstico

“Se llevará a cabo a principios de curso para verificar el nivel de competencia comunicativa lingüística de los alumnos e identificar sus dificultades y carencias, así como comprobar sus capacidades y modos de aprendizaje. Esta evaluación permitirá al profesor adecuar la programación didáctica al grupo” (artículo 5.2. Orden 1798/2008, de 7 de Abril)

Evaluación de progreso

Permite constatar la validez del proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje con el fin de alcanzar los objetivos propuestos. “Tendrá un carácter formativo con el objeto de orientar al alumno teniendo en cuenta los conocimientos adquiridos, sus dificultades y errores, así como las estrategias que le ayuden a mejorar su aprendizaje” (artículo 5.3. Orden 1798/2008, de 7 de Abril) .

Se realizarán diversas pruebas en las cuatro destrezas a lo largo del curso para que el alumno se familiarice con la tipología de las pruebas de examen.

-Habilidades productivas (writing y speaking): A lo largo del curso se harán 3 exámenes de redacción (puntuados cada uno sobre 25 siendo 15 el aprobado=60%) que si se aprueban eximirán de la prueba final de Junio.  Las pruebas se harán a la vuelta de vacaciones de Navidades, Marzo y Mayo.

También habrá  un examen oral durante el curso compuesto por un monólogo y un diálogo (teniendo que obtener entre las dos partes un mínimo de 15 puntos sobre 25) y si se aprueba, también liberará del examen oral de final de curso.

- Habilidades receptivas (reading y listening): Se realizarán diversos ejercicios en clase a modo de práctica, pero no contarán para la nota final, por lo que todos los alumnos deberán realizar estas dos partes en Junio.

Evaluación de aprovechamiento

“Permitirá comprobar el grado de consecución de los objetivos y determinar las calificaciones finales para la promoción al curso siguiente” (artículo 10 Orden 1798/2008, de 7 de Abril)

Al final del curso, los alumnos que hayan aprobado las destrezas de (speaking y writing) mediante la evaluación de progreso, no tendrán que hacer las pruebas finales de estas dos habilidades. Sin embargo, sí tendrán que realizar las pruebas referentes a las habilidades receptivas (reading y listening).

Los alumnos que no hayan aprobado el speaking y el writing mediante la evaluación de progreso tendrán que realizar las pruebas de todas las destrezas: speaking, writing, reading y listening en Junio. Todas las habilidades se aprobarán con una puntuación mínima del 60% cada una (15 puntos sobre un total de 25). 

Los alumnos/as que no superen alguna destreza en Junio, tendrán que volver a evaluarse en Septiembre de las destrezas no superadas.
